Seven Installation Precautions for Zirconia Oxygen Analyzers

Release time: 2019-07-13

Correctly selecting the probe installation point is of great significance for improving measurement accuracy and extending the probe's service life. If the zirconia probe installation point is chosen improperly, it may lead to distorted oxygen readings, delayed response, and severely shorten the lifespan of the zirconia probe. Principles for selecting installation points:

Therefore, the technical staff of Anhui Tianfen suggest that choosing the right zirconia probe installation point is key to effectively using the oxygen analyzer. Users can select the proper installation point by strictly following these seven tips:

  1. Oxidation and corrosion of various components of the zirconia probe are more severe at higher temperature ranges, significantly affecting the probe's service life. When the temperature is too low, condensed water vapor, SO2, and SO3 in the flue gas form sulfurous acid and sulfuric acid, which are extremely harmful to the zirconia element. Therefore, the detection point for the zirconia probe should ideally be selected between (100~600)℃.

  2. The installation point requires good flue gas flow to ensure a faster response time. Avoid installing in the furnace interior, dead corners, turbulent flow areas, or constricted openings. Installation in the interior or dead corners can lead to slow response; installation in turbulent flow areas can cause large oxygen fluctuations and poor representativeness; installation in constricted openings results in excessive flue gas velocity, which, although providing a rapid response, can easily lead to ash clogging and erosion failures.

  3. It should be convenient for operation, with no obstacles affecting the insertion of the zirconia probe.

  4. There should be no manholes or obvious leakage points within 5 meters upstream of the installation point to prevent oxygen distortion. When the furnace is shut down, the installation point should not be affected by water flushing operations and should not be easily damaged by human factors.

  5. Must not be subjected to flame impingement.

  6. The installation methods for zirconia probes can be divided into: vertically downward or horizontally. For horizontal installation, the angle with the horizontal is generally greater than 20 degrees (i.e., the zirconia probe within the flue should be tilted downwards by about 20 degrees) to prevent water vapor from remaining inside the probe.

  7. Timely understanding of technical parameters such as sulfur content and flow rate in the flue gas is crucial for maintaining the zirconia probe.
